Girls on the Run of San Diego is committed to making its program available to more girls throughout San Diego County.  We can help bring the program to your neighborhood.  Here’s what you need to know:

Girls on the Run provides:

  • 12-week fall or spring programs open to girls in either 3rd-5th grades or 6th-8th grades
  • Nationally successful Girls on the Run curriculum
  • All necessary program materials and supplies
  • Coach certification and training

Each program location is required to provide the following:

  • A Site Liaison who will be our main contact for communicating with the site. They will help assure the smooth implementation of the program by communicating about the program with site staff and securing appropriate training space by getting any necessary facility use forms. They will be the main contact person with GOTRSD staff and serve as a link between other coaches, participants and parents. This person could be the Head Coach, but it could also be a parent or someone else at the location.
  • A safe, dedicated space for running for 75 minutes twice a week for 12 weeks.  THIS IS ESSENTIAL.  This does not have to be a track.  A field or blacktop area is fine.  We prefer that the area is separate from other activities to limit distractions for the girls.
  • A consistent rain location that is indoors and private.  We prefer a gym or indoor space that allows for running and that is separate from other programs.
  • Program support and approval from the school principal or site director.
  • A plan for recruiting participants.
  • Distribution of program information or registration forms to all participants.  Teams consist of 8-15 girls.  Some sites may be approved for multiple teams.
  • A minimum of 2-3 coaches per team for your site.  Coaches must be available two times per week during the entire 12-week program.  We require a minimum of 3-4 volunteer coaches per team.  Girls on the Run can assist with developing a plan for identifying more volunteer coaches ahead of the season.  Coaches do not need to be runners or have coaching experience.

If you are interested in starting a new program, please download and complete a site application.  The application deadline for starting a fall program is June 1.  The application deadline for starting a spring program is November 1.  Please note that all steps including a New Site Application, Site Visit, and Site Agreement must be completed before this date.
